Even when you are one of the most decorated gin companies in Australia, it remains a relentless battle to "stand out from the crowd". Kangaroo Island Spirits (KIS) saw the need for a digital brand and an experienced agency. Boylen saw an opportunity to extract the magic from this iconic distillery and infuse it into the online user experience. 

After we tasted the entire range, of course.

Gin is an experience of the senses, so a rustic-elegant design was created to match the unique and authentic spirits crafted by this award-winning distillery. 

We're now developing the third version of the website for this regionally-based but globally recognised company. The new design will foster closer engagement and stimulate sales conversions through rich imagery, movement and emotive content. 

KIS has had excellent sales success following the site's integration with social media campaigns. A great example was the runaway success of Mulberry Gin in the lead up to Christmas 2018 and previous runs of limited edition Gin.

The current website layout is product-based, with quick links sitting above a “Purchase Now” button. These links include awards, serving suggestions, tasting notes and video. All of these are designed to tell the KIS story and lead to a sale.

Visitors can also apply discount codes, buy or use gift cards and also take advantage of a quick-order option.

The back-end is powered by a fully featured ecommerce solution. This includes a separate secure area for wholesalers to place orders.

Underpinning the current Shopify ecommerce solution are four pricing tiers. KIS management can see real-time order completion and action as required. Also built-in is the ability to review cart abandonment or send exit surveys for follow up sales.  

Checkout is integrated with AusPost label printing and package shipping service. This allows KIS to print labels for shipping quickly and easily, and customers to track their items online.

The website also has a direct integration with Rezdy event management platform to promote events and courses.

The site is fully responsive, so it delivers an unparalleled user experience across desktop, tablet and mobile devices. Ordering from a smartphone is a simple process.

A sophisticated backend membership management area offers the ability to create a personalised experience with preferential pricing. It requires a username and password to access restricted pricing or offers. There is an easy registration process for customers. Members can update their profile details, review purchase history and reorder easily. The out of the box data captured in this area from order profiles and history means that newsletters and special offers can be targeted to customers who have shown relevant interests.

Content localisation for global markets is another important factor for this amazing export success story. In the next stage of the website's evolution, KIS will be able to decide what pages to show in each overseas region, and presents those pages in that region’s language.

Automation significantly reduces administrative resources. This ranges from simple ‘forgotten password’ functionality to specialised processes developed for KIS.

Boylen has also assisted with developing customised reporting, to extract the most important data and present it in a readily accessible format.
