The process is usually straightforward because of the open source nature of WordPress, unlike the big proprietary website builders such as Wix and Squarespace), which have more than a touch of ‘lock-in by design’.
What we will need from you (or to obtain on your behalf):
Domain access: login to wherever your domain is registered (MelbourneIT, GoDaddy, Crazy Domains, VentraIP etc). We need to be able to point your domain to new servers, or transfer it entirely. Always make sure this is in your name, not your agency’s.
WordPress admin login: a full administrator-level username and password for the WordPress dashboard itself.
Database and file access: so we can migrate the entire site – files, database, media, plugins, themes.
It’s easier than you think.
